Role Summary

Vice President, Intellectual Property Licensing Counsel at Halozyme. Leads intellectual property licensing efforts for Halozyme’s technology licensing portfolio, including ENHANZE and MDASE technologies, auto-injector platforms, and potential future technologies. Partners with Business Development to evaluate, negotiate, and execute licensing deals and advises on IP strategy across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Support relationships in current collaborations, including contract obligations and communications
  • Contribute to strategy for new ENHANZE, MDASE, auto-injector, or other technology licenses or collaborations
  • Draft non-disclosure, research, license, and other IP-related agreements
  • Perform due diligence and support in potential life science transactions, including M&A or in-licenses
  • Advise management on leveraging Halozyme’s patent portfolio and growth opportunities
  • Work with IP counsel to prosecute and maintain the IP portfolio
  • Advise internal technical and business stakeholders; partner with external counsel on licensing strategy and IP litigation as needed
  • Support General Counsel and Associate General Counsels in strategic initiatives and business goals
  • Manage outside counsel engagement for transactions
  • Develop and deliver training on licensing, IP, confidentiality, and legal privilege
  • Interface with functions such as business development, product development, manufacturing, compliance, regulatory, and finance
  • Collaborate with current and potential partners and law firms as needed

Qualifications

  • J.D. or LL.M. from an ABA-accredited law school; admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction; 10+ years in IP licensing, with at least 5 years in a law firm and 4+ years in biotech/pharma industry (equivalent combo considered)
  • Proven strategic transactions leadership; experience negotiating and drafting complex licensing and partnering agreements
  • Life sciences IP law experience required
  • Excellent analytical and contract drafting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills for a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic solutions
  • In-house biotechnology experience favorable
