Role Summary

The Director, Global Process Excellence, Finance Systems and Reporting is a key member of Vertex’s Global Finance organization, leading continuous improvement workstreams including projects aimed at improving Global Finance processes, implementing and enhancing finance systems, and supporting enterprise reporting capabilities. Reporting to the VP, Global Process Excellence, Finance Systems and Reporting, this role ensures Vertex’s global R&D/BSMO finance teams can scale efficiently by optimizing global processes, implementing and enhancing finance systems, and building scalable global capabilities for enterprise planning and reporting. The role requires the ability to influence without authority and maintain an enterprise-wide view to ensure processes and solutions are effective and efficient for Vertex.

Responsibilities

  • Strategizes with finance and business leaders to identify and prioritize global R&D Finance process optimization opportunities to enable Vertex’s growth through cross-functional innovation and business partnering.
  • Partners with Finance leadership to develop a strategy for efficient scaling of short-term processes and long-range planning.
  • Leads process and systems enhancement workstreams to optimize data-driven insights for integrated enterprise decision making.
  • Enables growth by using data and technology platforms to drive operating efficiencies and scalable, compliant processes.
  • Drives implementation of global financial data structures to organize and govern data for performance management and decision support.
  • Partners with Finance, PPM, HR, Accounting and DTE to build integrated enterprise planning capabilities for short- and long-term decision making and resource allocation.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively, identifies change-management needs, and develops action plans to address gaps.
  • Develops and coaches junior team members to foster growth and inclusivity within the team.
  • Utilizes data analytics and metrics to identify trends, make recommendations, and mitigate resourcing and financial risks.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or Accounting.
  • Required: Typically 12+ years of relevant experience in a finance managerial role with strong technical and analytical skills, and a track record of success in a team-based environment.
  • Preferred: MBA and CPA.
  • Preferred: Continuous improvement mindset with experience applying Lean and Six Sigma to identify opportunities and develop action plans.
  • Preferred: Experience partnering with cross-functional teams; ability to manage through ambiguity and influence with and without authority.
  • Preferred: Strategic thinking and ability to align across R&D and Finance leadership; strong collaboration with senior leaders.
  • Preferred: Ability to develop innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions leveraging industry best practices; strong project management and multi-project ownership abilities.
  • Preferred: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of drug development processes and business acumen; experience with enterprise planning and data governance.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or Accounting; MBA and CPA are a plus.
