Technical Operations – Process Analytical Technology (PAT) Co-Op (6-month).
Responsibilities:
- Design and execute experiments to formulate calibration blends using material sparing techniques; measure spectroscopically.
- Build statistical/multivariate predictive models from spectroscopic data (PCA, PLS, etc.) to assess potency of drug product intermediates.
- Develop and evaluate methods for generating simulated calibration spectra; assess accuracy.
- Support automated off-line chemometric model assessments.
- Report and present results to key stakeholders and leadership.
Qualifications / Required skills:
- BS/MS/Ph.D. student in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.
- Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel); demonstrated advanced data manipulation in Excel.
- Fundamentals of vibrational spectroscopies (IR, Raman, NIR).
- Comfort handling and organizing large datasets.
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry for small molecule pharmaceuticals.
- Knowledge of oral solid dosage pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and formulations.
- Experience with multivariate data analysis/model building (PCA, PLS, SIMCA).
- Experience with Unscrambler or PLS Toolbox.
- Coding experience in MATLAB.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; Vertex does not sponsor internships/entry-level roles.
- Enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before Dec 2026.
- Available full-time (40 hrs/week) July–Dec 2026.
