Position Summary
- The Head of U.S. Pork Technical Services is a proactive leader, a member of the Pork Leadership Team, and reinforces and communicates the Zoetis Pork strategy.
Role Responsibilities
- Align with the Regional Business Director to strategically deploy Pork Technical Services (PTS) resources to maximize impact of appropriate use of Zoetis products and services.
- Drive a positive team culture based on Zoetis vision, core beliefs, and leader behaviors.
- Provide quality feedback and coaching to help colleagues meet and exceed role core competencies.
- Lead and coach a team that includes Technical Services Veterinarians (including Senior/Managing-level team members); manage resources to achieve objectives.
- Provide superior customer, scientific, and field force support to enable sustainable competitive advantage.
- Enhance the professional and scientific image of Zoetis.
- Serve as a member of the Livestock Technical Services Leadership Team to ensure technical consistency across livestock business segments.
- Ensure all actions reflect Zoetis Core Beliefs Leader Behaviors.
- Lead and manage veterinarians who serve as primary scientific advisors to sales/customer teams, partners to Pork Sales Leadership, coaches to field force, and represent the voice of science.
- Ensure PTS is fully aligned with business strategies and provides technical support to execute them.
- Provide strategic support to marketing and other stakeholders and develop processes/relationships to execute business strategies.
- Hire, develop, and coach technical expertise; identify opportunities to leverage team skills for internal/external customers.
- Lead cross-functional teams as needed to advise and influence management on technical issues; collaborate with functions including sales, marketing, GPM, VMRD, Regulatory Affairs, Legal Affairs, Public Affairs, etc.
- Ensure successful partnerships with enabling/platform groups (e.g., Global Manufacturing Services (GMS), Veterinary Medical Research & Development (VMRD), Commercial Development and Lifecycle Management, Business Development).
- Provide sound technical advice for routine inquiries; act as a resource to assist other team members.
- Respond effectively to customer complaints; fulfill regulatory requirements and corporate guidelines for adverse event reporting.
- Support marketing as requested by contributing to development of technical materials for accuracy and medical appropriateness.
- Participate on new product teams as requested (VMRD and GPM); propose strategic projects and identify portfolio gaps for business development.
Management Role
- Collaborate on the Livestock Technical Services Leadership Team (LTSLT).
- Help lead long-term PTS team strategies and policies supporting Zoetis Pork business strategies.
- Personnel management: deliver feedback/mentoring/coaching; at least 60% of the time champion, reinforce, and coach the PTS team to meet objectives and maintain a unified customer-facing approach.
- Support Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for direct reports.
- Manage direct report performance: review annual objectives, establish performance standards/metrics, and oversee annual performance appraisals.
- Budget responsibilities: effectively manage assigned operating expenses and Zoetis assets; monitor and approve expense reports for direct reports.
Key Customer Contacts
- Collaborate with marketing and sales to provide scientific education/training to internal and external customers.
- Build strong working relationships with the Regional Business Director (RBD) through proactive communication, alignment, timely execution of strategy, and honest/direct bi-directional feedback.
- Build strong working relationships with Area Business Managers (ABM) to ensure appropriate support and strategic alignment from technical services.
- Represent Zoetis credibly within the veterinary profession; attend and contribute to selected professional organizational activities.
Location
- Preferred location: Iowa; open to candidates based in Minnesota and Illinois.
Education and Experience (Qualifications)
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent.
- 7+ years of experience in clinical practice, academia, research, or industry.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Candidate Qualifications
- 5+ years private practice experience.
- 2+ years industry experience.

- Demonstrated track record delivering financial commitments, including budgetary management.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
Physical Position Requirements
- Travel: 40–60%.
- Willingness to drive to customer locations across the defined geography (producer, clinic, and processing facilities).
