Job Position Overview
- The Supervisor provides leadership and direct management to process operators in the Medicine Foundry operations group; serves as the management representative on shift.
- Oversees manufacturing start-up activities to bring equipment into service and, upon project completion, oversees the production of API molecules.
- Ensures a safety-first, quality-always approach while managing diverse unit operations.
- Requires domestic and international travel to collaborate, train, and learn from API-producing sites.
Responsibilities
- Enforce compliance requirements (safety, quality, environmental) and escalate adverse events.
- Operate processes and equipment per batch records, manuals, design parameters, SOPs, and work instructions to meet production schedule.
- Oversee monitoring, testing, cleaning, and operation of area equipment and systems; ensure systems are maintained per requirements.
- Lead safety culture; promote compliant operations and accountability.
- Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting and reaction to process upsets; integrate operator input and escalate as appropriate.
- Follow safety event reporting/documentation, including spill response and initiating Emergency Response procedures as needed.
- Follow quality event reporting/documentation, including GMP deviation records; interface with Quality Assurance and escalate as needed.
- Oversee shift-to-shift communication and address issues at passover.
- Participate in daily shift huddles/meetings for operational goal alignment.
- Lead building/area operations assignments (safety audits, procedure coordination, housekeeping, continuous improvement).
- Ensure cGMP practices, safe work habits, dress code, hygiene, and housekeeping requirements are followed.
- Enforce required use of company-supplied PPE.
- Deploy operators to meet production schedules; maintain emergency response coverage; manage holiday/overtime; handle timecard/coding.
- Manage performance on shift, employee relations, and annual performance management.
- Ensure training is current and operating procedures/materials are available.
- Partner with area Associate Director on Foundry strategy and future production needs.
- Manage collaborations between the shift and support groups (maintenance, engineering, analytical laboratory, Technical Support).
Basic Requirements
- HS Diploma/GED.
- API supervisory experience required.
- 5+ years supporting/supervising a manufacturing operation, preferably in a GMP and/or chemical processing environment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States full-time; Lilly does not sponsor work authorization/visas.
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Bachelorโs or Associate's degree in science, engineering, or technical field.
- Facility/area start-up experience.
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing operations experience.
- Demonstrated leadership; ability to provide/receive feedback and create development plans.
- Basic computer skills (desktop software).
- Solid understanding of FDA guidelines and cGMP requirements.
- Lean manufacturing knowledge.
- Ability to work on a team, make independent decisions, influence diverse groups, and instill teamwork.
- Strong communication (verbal/written), including one-on-one coaching/feedback.
- Strong organization and ability to prioritize multiple requests.
- Strong technical proficiency to train and mentor others.
Additional Information (Role/Work Conditions)
- Location: USโLebanon, IN (initially Indianapolis, IN during pre-startup phase).
- Travel: ~10%.
- Rotating 12-hour shift.
- May require support outside normal hours (nights, weekends, holidays).
- May require travel to other Lilly locations for training purposes.
