Role Summary

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientist who acts as an extension of the US Medical Affairs organization. MSLs develop and enhance professional relationships with medical thought leaders across product development stages, providing medical information through scientific exchange and clinical/scientific support for Jazz Pharmaceuticals.

Responsibilities

  • KOL Development and Field Engagement: Identify and develop peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare providers within the Epilepsy therapeutic area; develop and execute territory plans in alignment with US Medical Affairs plans; identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from KOLs to appropriate departments; participate in medical education for healthcare professionals through on-site presentations at healthcare institutions, investigator meetings, national conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings; provide scientific support for activities such as medical congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training initiatives.
  • Positions self as Scientific Expert: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the therapy area, Jazz products, and emerging research; establish reputation as a trustworthy source of scientific and medical information; support Jazz’s positioning as the scientific authority in Epilepsy; attend scientific congresses to stay informed and support KOL activities; understand local and national clinical practice protocols and trends; provide clinical presentations in academic, community, and healthcare settings; communicate emerging data and clinical experience objectively; provide support for congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training.
  • Clinical Development And Research Management: Act as primary liaison to investigators for IITs; monitor IITs, review study design, and oversee milestones to ensure progression of investigator- or company-sponsored research; collaborate with medical affairs and clinical teams to support patient enrollment in sponsored trials; serve as internal scientific advisor for portfolio evaluation.
  • Medical Affairs Planning and Plan Execution: Contribute to US Medical Plan development and provide input into local strategies; manage relevant budget to enable plan execution; collaborate cross-functionally to ensure a Key Account Management approach; interact with HCPs as a scientific resource to support activities aligned with the Medical Plan (advisory boards, speaker development, clinical trials).
  • Responsible For Maintaining Company Standards And Jazz Values: Engage healthcare providers in meaningful scientific exchange; document and forward reports of adverse events and product complaints; adhere to Codes of Practice; act ethically and with integrity; represent Jazz’s mission and values; maintain personal development plans and timely reporting.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to research, analyze, and communicate complex scientific information; excellent communication and presentation skills; strong planning and organizational skills; strategic mindset; self-motivated and autonomous; quick learner, flexible, results-focused; strong negotiation and relationship-building skills; proficient with digital platforms; excellent command of spoken English.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel at least 60% of work days; driving required.

Education

  • MS/Advanced Practice Degree in scientific/medical discipline with minimum 5 years in Epilepsy, or MD, PharmD, or PhD; MSL experience in Neurology required, Epilepsy strongly preferred; minimum 3 years as an MSL with a strong track record.
  • This is a field position; willing to travel 60–80% time; valid driver’s license and residence within 60 miles of a major airport.
