Sr. Director, Medical Excellence & Operations (Medical Affairs) β Remote
Role Overview
Responsible for developing and driving the vision, strategy, and executional excellence of Medical Affairs operations; ensures Medical Affairs is high-performing, compliant, and strategically aligned across product lifecycles.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the Medical Excellence & Operations strategy aligned to Medical Affairs vision and business objectives.
- Advise the VP of Medical Affairs and the Medical Affairs Leadership Team (MALT) on operations, risk mitigation, and executional foresight.
- Collaborate with alliance partner (JNJ) on shared Medical Affairs priorities, indications, launch strategies, and operational readiness.
- Partner with the Digital Lead to operationalize initiatives that mature capabilities and scalability.
- Establish governance and ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and corporate policies.
- Ensure readiness for audits/inspections via standardized processes and documentation.
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex operational, compliance, or budget decisions.
- Oversee medical congress strategy/execution, medical education, and sponsorship programs.
- Ensure initiatives meet scientific integrity, operational excellence, budget discipline, timelines, and strategic objectives.
- Own components of the Medical Affairs operating budget; oversee vendor strategy, contracting models, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with Finance/Procurement to forecast needs, manage spend, and optimize costs.
- Sponsor and be accountable for Medical Affairs operational platforms; contribute to KPIs and data-informed continuous improvement.
- Build and lead the organization and develop talent/succession pipelines.
Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree required; advanced degree/leadership training desired.
- 10+ years in Medical Affairs/Medical Operations/pharma-biotech leadership; proven enterprise initiative leadership.
- Track record scaling Medical Affairs operations in a highly regulated environment.
- Senior leadership influence in matrixed orgs; deep governance/compliance/scientific engagement knowledge.
- Strong financial acumen (budgets, vendors, operating plans); strategic/change leadership.
- Exceptional communication with senior stakeholders.
