Senior Scientific Director for R&D Data and AI Convergence Strategy

Role Summary

Senior Scientific Director for R&D Data and AI Convergence Strategy. Lead scientific and strategic objectives for the Convergence organization, driving analysis of large cross-functional datasets to advance AbbVie’s R&D goals and establish AbbVie as an industry-leading knowledge-based biopharmaceutical company.

Responsibilities

• As the scientific leader for the Convergence organization, develop and execute strategies to generate and deploy novel analysis of large, cross-functional, internal and external datasets to advance AbbVie’s R&D objectives.
• Establish relationships with leaders across R&D functions to align the Convergence scientific strategy with other functional strategies.
• Partner with senior R&D leaders to ensure alignment of the Convergence scientific strategy with functional objectives and strategic priorities.
• Lead the cross-functional team of R&D Data & Digital Catalysts, ensuring their work aligns with the Convergence strategy.
• Anticipate challenges and prioritize emerging scientific and technology trends; champion internal and external innovation.
• Partner with Information Research to drive technology and capability builds for assembling large data sets and advanced analytics.
• Lead the exchange of scientific knowledge across functions using the Convergence ecosystem and other channels; advise and share expertise.
• Establish scientific standards to position AbbVie as a global industry leader; drive changes in standards through senior leadership.
• Partner with BTS Partnership leaders to build relationships with external scientific leaders and support exchange of expert opinions and visions of technology.
• Develop industry reputation as a key opinion leader; participate in international panels and standards committees.
• Mentor junior scientists in alignment with the Convergence strategy.

Qualifications

• PhD in a scientific discipline with 14+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s with 20+ years; or Bachelor’s with 22+ years.
• Proven ability to innovate with a robust publication history.
• Ability to advise and influence discipline experts and leaders across AbbVie.
• Ability to work with diverse groups across functions and maintain strong internal and external collaborations.
• Strong communication skills; ability to articulate perspectives orally, in writing, and in presentations.
• Interpersonal skills for negotiating and reconciling interdisciplinary differences to optimize AbbVie goals.
