Primary function: Assess safety of experimental compounds/devices by evaluating effects on body fluids and tissues of experimental animals. Serve as a science resource in clinical and anatomic pathology. Develop and conduct anatomic/clinical pathology study protocol portions, including collection/evaluation of gross, microscopic, ultrastructural, and clinical pathology data, and preparation of comprehensive pathology reports correlated with study findings.

Responsibilities:
- Consult with scientific staff of other departments; supervise assigned technical areas.
- Design, direct, conduct, and evaluate toxicity studies with the Toxicology Department across animal species (necropsy, histopathology, clinical pathology, electron microscopy, etc.).
- Integrate anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, and other findings into pathology reports for Toxicology.
- Partner with regulatory toxicologists/pathologists to develop strategies for toxicology issues and advance development compounds.
- Interpret/evaluate biological data impacting research & development, toxicology, and problem-solving; ensure accuracy for regulatory clearance and liability risk.
- Work in multidisciplinary teams to address regulatory queries.
- Serve/lead issue resolution teams and participate in due diligence.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Corporate/Divisional policies and procedures.
- Serve as early safety representative on drug discovery teams (predict toxicities, develop safety screens, mitigation strategies, and prioritize safer compounds).

Qualifications:
- DVM (or equivalent) plus postgraduate training in veterinary pathology.
- ACVP (or equivalent) board certification strongly preferred.
- Ph.D. in pathology (or related) strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with pharmacology, toxicology, and drug development.
- 5–15+ years veterinary pathologist experience in pharmaceutical business required.
- Supervisory experience; strong oral/written communication; ability to lead multidisciplinary scientific teams.
