Responsibilities and Duties:
- Demonstrated project and team leadership; mentor less experienced engineers.
- Design circuits with RF circuitry, analog controls, transducers, and sensors for dermatology products using RF, lasers, and ultrasonic energy-based devices.
- Perform electronics schematic capture and supervise CAD layout resources.
- Develop and construct system/peripheral electronic board prototypes.
- Conduct hands-on laboratory debug and integration to test and verify hardware designs.
- Hold and participate in technical design reviews.
- Incorporate DFM and EMC principles for medical device designs; apply change process and configuration management tools.
- Ensure equipment compliance to IEC medical device standards (e.g., 60601-1, 60601-1-2).
- Participate in systems-level failure mode, safety, and hazard analysis.
- Support Manufacturing and Service in reliability and failure analysis investigations and solutions.
- Learn and support legacy products while developing new ones.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- BS (advanced degree preferred) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 15 years in analog and digital systems design for medical devices, including clinical RF energy device development.
- Substantial experience with system-level electrical design/integration, design for EMC, signal integrity, power supply development, and RF immunity.
- Hands-on experience with circuit development, test and analysis for RF/laser/ultrasound products; understanding therapeutic/clinical thermal heating and safety/standards.
- Knowledge of EDA CAD tools and design for manufacturability and test.
- Problem definition, data collection, and analysis; generate conclusions supporting recommendations.
- Design best practices including FDA risk management and design for EMC, safety, and manufacturability.
- Strong documentation skills for regulated products (design traceability, specs/requirements, V&V plans).
- Preferred: experience with regulated environments/standards (IEC 60601-x, ISO, MIL-STD, FAA); foreign regulator experience is a plus.
Desired Technical Skills (Preferred/Plus):
- Mixed-signal board development with embedded microprocessors and FPGAs (plus).
- Background in clinical application of laser/RF/ultrasound energy (plus).
- Experience with RF amplifiers, impedance matching networks, transformers, embedded processors, power electronics, A/Ds, DACs, op-amps, FETs, and power supplies; prototype-to-product release with creative test/verification (e.g., Microsoft Office, SPICE, Altium).
- Data analysis/software for data collection using Matlab, Python, or similar (plus).
