Medical Affairs
Senior Medical Science Liaison I (Field-based) responsible for strategically supporting research and business objectives for a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory. Primary communicator of AbbVie science with healthcare professionals; develops and maintains internal/external relationships to provide comprehensive medical/scientific support.
Responsibilities:
- Identify/develop/maintain relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers to access current medical/scientific information.
- Present scientific/educational information on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products to physicians, researchers, and other HCPs.
- Support R&D/Clinical Operations/Medical Affairs research initiatives and physician-initiated projects (e.g., site evaluation/identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, external collaboration management).
- Prepare the marketplace in new therapeutic areas by creating awareness and relationships.
- Build and collaborate with internal cross-functional partners and in-field commercial teams; develop/execute account plans for shared business objectives; serve as a scientific resource to commercial partners.
- Answer unsolicited medical questions and provide clinically related medical information.
- Provide ongoing training to medical affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel.
- Practice strategic segmentation and optimal resource utilization.
- Ensure compliance with corporate/divisional policies, accurate/timely HCP interaction documentation, and maintain annual expenses within budget.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, APP such as Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner) in a relevant discipline; doctorate strongly preferred.
- Typically 2+ years relevant experience.
- Ability to analyze/translate territory and corporate needs; excellent Excel/Word/PowerPoint and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, teaching, planning/organizational, and leadership/team skills; ability to work independently.
- Meet HCIR credentialing requirements (may include background checks, drug screens, immunization/vaccination proof).
- Ability to learn and convey clinical and non-clinical technical information; engage audiences.
- Travel up to 75%.
