Job Description
The Senior Medical Science Liaison I is a field-based scientific expert that strategically supports the research and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory. Primary communicator of AbbVie science within a geography with healthcare professionals; develops and maintains professional relationships with internal and external customers.
Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers to access current medical/scientific information.
- Present scientific information and education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products to healthcare professionals.
- Support research initiatives and physician-initiated projects (site evaluation/identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and collaboration management).
- Prepare the marketplace in new therapeutic areas by creating awareness and relationships.
- Create/maintain relationships with internal cross-functional partners and work with in-field commercial teams to develop and execute account plans; serve as a scientific resource.
- Answer unsolicited medical questions and address clinically related medical information.
- Provide on-going training to Medical Affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel.
- Practice strategic segmentation and optimal resource utilization.
- Ensure compliance with corporate/divisional policies and timely documentation for HCP interactions; maintain annual expenses within assigned budget.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, APP such as Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner); doctorate strongly preferred.
- Typically 2+ years relevant experience.
- Ability to identify/analyze/translate territory and corporate needs to meet business and clinical objectives.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint; excellent written/verbal communication.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, teaching, planning/organizational, independent and team/leadership skills.
- Meet Health Care Industry Representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements (e.g., background checks, drug screens, immunization proof).
- Ability to learn and convey technical clinical and non-clinical information; engage audiences.
- Travel up to 75%.
