The Senior Medical Science Liaison I is a field-based scientific expert that strategically supports research and business objectives for a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory. Serves as the primary communicator of AbbVie science with healthcare professionals, developing and maintaining internal and external relationships and providing comprehensive medical and scientific support. Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers.
- Present scientific information and education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products to healthcare professionals.
- Support research initiatives and physician-initiated projects (e.g., site evaluation/identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and external collaboration management).
- Prepare marketplace in new therapeutic areas by creating awareness and relationships.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional partners and work with in-field commercial teams to develop and execute account plans; serve as a scientific resource to commercial partners.
- Answer unsolicited medical questions and address clinically related medical information issues.
- Conduct ongoing training to Medical Affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel.
- Practice core capabilities in strategic segmentation and optimal resource utilization.
- Ensure compliance with corporate/divisional policies and maintain accurate/timely documentation for HCP interactions; maintain annual expenses within assigned budget parameters.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, or APP/Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner in a relevant scientific discipline); doctorate strongly preferred.
- Typically 2+ years relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; excellent written/verbal communication.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, teaching, planning, and organizational skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
- Meet HCIR credentialing requirements (e.g., background checks, drug screens, immunization/vaccination proof).
- Ability to learn and convey clinical and non-clinical technical information; engage audiences.
- Travel up to 75% of the time.
