General Summary
- Serve as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community; build and maintain relationships with HCPs to disseminate clinical/scientific information about Vertex compounds in a timely, ethical, stakeholder-focused manner.
- Shape the medical plan using external stakeholder insights and support Medical Affairs strategy and execution. Engage HCPs to address educational and research needs and provide emerging data as appropriate.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop trusting relationships with Thought Leaders and appropriate HCPs; leverage expertise across and between academic centers.
- Incorporate SEM (Scientific Engagement Model) in all interactions.
- Apply the medical plan to territory planning (listening priorities) and capture feedback in CRM to inform internal stakeholders.
- Use CRM/data analytics tools for timely capture and workload management.
- Communicate scientific information compliantly and effectively for both disease state and product.
- Apply in-depth payer knowledge to understand impact on patient care delivery.
- Support clinical development/operations (IB content; present IB material at SIV meetings; nominate trial sites; review end-of-study data with investigators).
- Represent Vertex at medical congresses (sessions/abstract coverage, booth staffing, summaries; may lead congress logistics).
- Mentor/train less experienced colleagues; support onboarding.
- Ensure activities comply with Vertex policies and complete administrative tasks (CRM entry, reporting, expenses, calendar, trainings).
Knowledge/Skills (required)
- Deliver goals on time; manage projects in a field environment; problem-solve; appraise literature.
- Present clinical/scientific info credibly; know assigned territory.
- In-depth healthcare regulatory/compliance understanding; Microsoft Office; matrix work.
- Proficient disease/disease-management and competitor knowledge.
- Strong understanding of HEOR; payers; compliant access/use support.
- Fluent English and local language; valid driver’s license; travel up to 70% (occasional weekends).
Education/Experience
- Advanced biomedical/life sciences degree (e.g., MS, NP, PA).
- Typically 5+ years as an MSL (or equivalent pharma/biotech medical affairs experience). Therapeutic area experience helpful.
