Position Summary
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as Vericel’s scientific and clinical expert for the Orthopedic franchise, providing non-promotional scientific exchange, medical education, and research support to healthcare professionals, investigators, and key opinion leaders (KOLs).
Location
Remote position in the Northeast. Ideal locations include New England, New York, or the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia). Requires up to 70% travel throughout the Northeast.
Responsibilities
- Serve as scientific/clinical expert for Vericel’s Orthopedic portfolio within assigned geography.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with KOLs, investigators, academic institutions, and healthcare professionals.
- Provide balanced, evidence-based scientific exchange and education in line with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Represent Vericel at scientific congresses, advisory boards, investigator meetings, and other medical forums.
- Provide non-promotional scientific support for commercialized and investigational orthopedic products.
- Educate healthcare professionals via presentations, customer visits, and educational programs.
- Support Medical Affairs planning with scientific insights for evidence generation, lifecycle management, and publication strategy.
- Collaborate with Clinical Development/Research to support clinical trials and post-market studies; guide Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISS).
- Identify field insights (scientific/clinical/competitive/healthcare system) and translate them into actionable recommendations.
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific or clinical degree (MS, MSN, DPT, PA, NP, PharmD, PhD, or MD).
- Minimum 5 years MSL or equivalent Medical Affairs experience in biotech/pharma/medical device/regenerative medicine.
- Expertise in orthopedics/cartilage restoration/sports medicine/regenerative medicine/cell therapy.
- Strong scientific/clinical communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with KOLs and academic institutions.
- Must reside near a major airport.
- Experience supporting regenerative medicine or cell therapy products.
- Experience with advisory boards/investigator meetings/publication planning.
- Mentoring/leadership and clinical research/evidence-generation experience preferred.
Compensation/Benefits
- Salary range: $171,000 to $195,000 annually. Bonus/incentive pay, equity, and benefits may be provided.
