Position Summary
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Senior MSL) is a field-based advanced technical, scientific, and medical expert who answers product-related questions from HCPs and provides clinical/scientific presentations and medical education.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary field-based medical liaison providing medical information and scientific exchange
- Identify and manage collaborative relationships with medical/scientific leaders and investigators to address scientific needs
- Provide accurate, unbiased, balanced, timely responses to unsolicited requests for information
- Establish relationships with thought leaders and academic/community centers to expand research and education
- Engage in non-product scientific discussions (e.g., disease state, diagnosis, epidemiology, unmet need, population health)
- Self-direct work in a changing environment and integrate/communicate HCP feedback
- Participate in advisory boards and other company meetings
- Attend key medical/scientific congresses and conferences as needed
- Lead department-wide projects and support cross-functional strategic initiatives
- Provide strategic insights by maintaining therapeutic-area expertise
- Monitor competitive advances/trends and provide internal feedback
- Mentor and coach new/junior MSLs
Qualifications
- Doctorate (PharmD/PhD/MD/DNP, etc.) in biological sciences with 4–6 years MSL Medical Affairs expertise in the therapeutic area (or equivalent)
- Advanced medical/scientific master’s (NP/PA) with extensive clinical expertise considered
- Critical data analysis; excellent communication/presentation; strong networking
- Ability to work in cross-functional matrix; prior MSL mentorship; project management experience
- Knowledge of FDA/OIG and PhRMA Code compliant scientific exchange
- Up to 70% travel; valid driver’s license
