Role Summary

Senior Medical Science Liaison (Nephrology) for Povetacicept programs. The Sr MSL will serve as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community, establishing and maintaining relationships with Health Care Providers/Professionals (HCPs) to disseminate clinical and scientific information in a timely, ethical, and stakeholder-focused manner. The role contributes to shaping the medical plan by incorporating external insights and assisting in the design and execution of the Medical Affairs strategy and plan. The Sr MSL engages HCPs to address scientific educational and research needs and provides the latest emerging data in response to inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and foster relationships with Thought Leaders and HCPs, enabling scientific engagement with a broad network of providers and opinion leaders; understand inter-relationships within academic centers to enhance engagements
  • Incorporate the Scientific Engagement Model into interactions to improve quality and relationships
  • Integrate the medical plan into interactions and territory planning; capture feedback in the CRM system to inform internal stakeholders and shape medical strategy
  • Hold in-depth understanding of CRM/data analytics tools to capture interaction details and inform future TL engagements
  • Communicate scientific information effectively and compliantly to external stakeholders across disease states and products
  • Understand payers in the region and their impact on patient care delivery
  • Assist clinical development/operations by understanding IB content, presenting IB material, nominating trial sites, and reviewing end-of-study data with investigators as needed
  • Represent Vertex at medical congresses, including session/abstract coverage, TL interactions, and congress debriefs
  • Mentor or train colleagues with less experience; assist with new hire MSL onboarding
  • Conduct all activities in compliance with Vertex policies; perform administrative tasks (CRM entry, mileage reporting, expenses, calendar entries, training, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Minimum advanced biomedical or life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)
  • 3–4 years of experience as an MSL supporting Nephrology programs or in other medical affairs roles in pharma/biotech
  • Previous training or experience in the designated therapeutic area is helpful

  • Ability to meet goals within established timeframes and deliver high-quality results
  • Project planning in a dynamic field-based environment
  • Ability to appraise and understand medical and scientific literature
  • Ability to present clinical/scientific information credibly in varied settings
  • Strong knowledge of the geographic territory and healthcare regulatory environment
  • Proficiency in articulating the medical and scientific value of Vertex products
  • Understanding of compliance/regulatory frameworks governing the pharmaceutical industry
  • Knowledge of payers and medical information needs to support access and appropriate use
  • Knowledge of Health Economics and Outcomes Research
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)

Education

  • Advanced biomedical or life sciences degree required (e.g., Masters, NP, PA)
