General Summary:
- The Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) (Nephrology) for Vertex’s broad Nephrology programs including IgAN and AMKD.
- Serve as a scientific liaison to the medical/academic community; establish and maintain relationships with HCPs to disseminate clinical and scientific information ethically and in a timely, stakeholder-focused manner.
- Shape the medical plan by providing external stakeholder insights; contribute to designing/executing the Medical Affairs strategy and plan.
- Engage HCPs in response to scientific educational and research needs using Vertex resources; provide emerging data as appropriate.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and foster trusting relationships with Thought Leaders and other HCPs across nephrology; understand relationships within/between academic centers.
- Apply the SEM (Scientific Engagement Model) in interactions.
- Incorporate the medical plan into territory planning; capture feedback in CRM to inform internal stakeholders.
- Use CRM/data analytics tools for time-sensitive capture and workload management.
- Communicate scientific information compliantly at an advanced level (disease state and product).
- Apply in-depth payer knowledge to patient care delivery.
- Support clinical development/operations: understand IB content, present IB materials, provide trial site nominations, review end-of-study data with investigators.
- Represent Vertex at medical congresses (coverage, booth staffing, TL interactions, summaries, debrief/logistics as needed).
- Mentor/train colleagues; assist with onboarding.
- Conduct all activities per policy/procedures and complete administrative tasks (CRM entry, expenses, mileage, calendar, training).
Knowledge and Skills:
- Meet goals/timelines; manage projects in changing field environments.
- Appraise medical/scientific literature; present clinical/scientific information credibly.
- Knowledge of territory, healthcare regulatory environment, and compliance frameworks governing pharma.
- Knowledge of payers and Health Economics and Outcomes Research; fluent English (oral/written).
Education and Experience:
- Advanced biomedical/life sciences degree (e.g., Masters, NP, PA).
- Minimum 4 years’ experience as an MSL supporting Nephrology programs or equivalent medical affairs experience in pharma/biotech (or combination).
- Prior therapeutic-area training/experience helpful.
