Principal Responsibilities:
- Serve as physician lead for LUMUS, a 388-patient Phase 2b trial evaluating efficacy, safety, and PK of multiple doses of ESK-001 in adult autoantibody-positive SLE.
- Provide leadership of in-stream data reviews and reconciliation efforts.
- Author clinical portions of key study documents (e.g., Protocol Amendments, Regulatory Submissions).
- Provide oversight of the LUMUS medical monitor.
- Participate in external scientific engagement, including peer-to-peer interactions with MDs.
- Represent the interests of Alumis as a rheumatology leader.
- Coach, manage, inspire, and support team members.
- Maintain integrity and scientific standards for drug development.
Primary goals (opening months):
- Build trust with internal/external stakeholders and act as a strategic partner.
- Provide hands-on leadership with operations to advance LUMUS.
- Improve and maintain study data quality, including cross-referencing key efficacy endpoints.
Candidate Requirements:
- MD (or ex-US equivalent) with board certification in Rheumatology.
- 5+ years of clinical development experience; lupus clinical trial background desired.
- Proven leadership experience managing people.
- Ability to assess, understand, and communicate evolving medical/scientific information.
- Strategic, organizational, and executional skills for project planning across multiple activities.
- Organized, detail-oriented deliverables management and timeline adherence in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization (leader and cross-functional team member).
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, presentation, and communication skills (written/verbal).
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Travel to HQ (South San Francisco) one week out of every month.
Onsite expectations/location:
- Based in South San Francisco, CA; onsite TuesdayβThursday. Remote applicants allowed with onsite once a month.
