Role Summary

Senior Manager, Worldwide Medical Hematology, Medical Communications. Responsible for planning and timely execution of scientifically accurate and strategically aligned communications plans that support medical communication needs of markets related to specified asset(s) in Worldwide Medical Hematology.

Responsibilities

  • Leads across the BMS matrix to develop and timely delivery of strategically aligned medical publications, scientific content, medical information, medical education, training content, and congress presentations.
  • Ensures endorsement of medical communications plans by governance bodies prior to execution, and maintains plans in alignment with Local Market Medical, Worldwide Medical, and market-level strategy.
  • Serves as the Medical Communications point of contact between WW and other matrix partners; provides medical communications management oversight.
  • Enhances bi-directional communication by sharing WW medical communications plans with Medical and raising needs to WW Medical/Medical Communications teams, ensuring country/global awareness and connectivity including vendor oversight.
  • Owns the pull-through and execution of the Scientific Narrative, development and execution of an integrated publication plan, content plan, and application to the Scientific Communication Platform (SCP).
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen, interfaces with market matrix partners, and manages the Medical Communications budget.

Data Dissemination

  • Act as subject matter expert to internal audiences on communication landscape, HCP preferences, publication planning, data disclosure/dissemination; represent BMS scientific communications to external investigators, authors, and journal editors.
  • Promote and reinforce principles among authors and internal stakeholders, ensuring publications meet publication best practices and BMS standards and policies, aligned with Good Publication Practices and industry standards.
  • Demonstrate understanding of therapeutic disease areas and foster collaborations with internal and external disease-area experts for quality data analysis and communication planning.
  • Ensure collection of insights to deliver high-quality medical communication for impactful dialogue with customers.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes, tools, operating procedures, and outsourcing strategy to ensure consistent delivery and standards.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Foster collaborative relationships with academic/clinical experts, publishers, medical associations, and other stakeholder groups; participate in external initiatives to foster trust in medical publishing community.
  • Partner with TA Medical Communication Leads, Market Medical, and other stakeholders to allocate resources to ensure timely delivery of high-quality medical communications.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to balance internal and external execution of work.
  • Establish clear metrics and regularly communicate them with key medical stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Advance scientific degree, PharmD, PhD, or MD preferred.
  • 5+ years of pharmaceutical/healthcare industry experience with a focus on medical communications; experience in both local country and global contexts preferred.
  • Strong strategic leadership, ability to drive performance, build alignment, negotiate, and collaborate.
  • Experience working cross-functional with cross-cultural teams across matrix, markets, and global geographies.
  • Proven ability to work in ambiguous environments and drive business results in a large, complex corporate setting with tight timelines.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills; ability to manage timelines and quality of work.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and time management skills.
  • Experience leading medical communications across all phases of drug development and commercialization; ability to analyze and interpret trial data.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate solutions and establish strong stakeholder relationships; flexibility to participate in teleconferences across time zones.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
