General Summary:
Senior Director (non-MD) US Medical Affairs asset lead responsible for strategic planning and execution of launch and lifecycle medical affairs assets within Vertex’s nephrology portfolio; provides scientific leadership across cross-functional teams and builds/LEADS a growing team of Medical Directors.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, execute, and refine US Medical Affairs strategic/operational plan for assigned nephrology asset(s) from pre-launch through lifecycle.
- Act as primary internal medical-scientific authority; interpret clinical/real-world/published data and translate into actionable strategy.
- Build trusted relationships with US nephrology thought leaders, academic investigators, and external experts.
- Partner with Commercial, Market Access, HEOR, Regulatory, Clinical Development, and Corporate Communications to ensure aligned launch readiness.
- Design and drive evidence generation (e.g., investigator-sponsored research, advisory boards, medical education).
- Oversee compliant, fair, balanced scientific presentations/communications.
- Provide strategic input into promotional and non-promotional material review (CRC/MLR).
- Establish and track medical KPIs; use scenario planning/market foresight to adapt.
- Ensure activities comply with Vertex policies and applicable laws, GCP, ICH, and codes of practice.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Terminal doctoral degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, DO, or equivalent).
- 10+ years Medical Affairs/related experience; 3+ years supervisory/people management.
- Strategic US medical launch acumen; strong EQ and relationship-building.
- Ability to execute in matrixed environments; strong nephrology/immunology knowledge and evidence generation familiarity.
- Excellent written/oral communication; critical data interpretation and strategy translation; proven project delivery.
Preferred:
- Prior launch experience in nephrology/immunology/rare disease.
- Experience leading Medical Directors/Associate Medical Directors.
Pay Range:
$252,000 - $378,000; eligible for annual bonus and annual equity awards.
Flex:
Hybrid (remote up to 2 days/week) or On-Site (5 days/week on-site with ad hoc flexibility).
