Summary (Role): Senior Director, Medical Communications (reports to Head of Medical Affairs).
Responsibilities:
- Accountable for overarching Medical Communications strategy, execution, and budget.
- Manage two direct reports (asset-specific): avutometinib + defactinib and VS7375.
- Build deep knowledge of each assetโs strategic objectives; represent function in high-level strategic discussions (e.g., MALT, cross-functional teams).
- Assess and update Medical Communications best practices; oversee new policies/processes/workflows in a lean, fast-moving environment.
- Contribute to Medical Affairs strategy; provide leadership and guidance during development of strategic plans and assets.
- Oversee Scientific/Medical Communications and Medical Information partners; ensure strategic input, deliverables, and budget alignment.
- Advocate for strong scientific communication through effective internal/external stakeholder relationships.
- Provide leadership support for alliance/joint venture partners.
- Execute best practices within oncology publications to streamline communications.
- Support congress presence plans (global oncology congresses) and track progress across assets.
- Maintain standards of Good Publication Practice (GPP2022), ICMJE, and CONSORT; ensure adherence to company policies.
- Plan/support/attend scientific conferences and medical meetings as needed.
- Ensure resourcing for data decks, disease-state decks, FAQs, training materials, and other medical content.
- Align external scientific narrative with Corporate Communications/Investor Relations.
Qualifications:
- Degree in scientific discipline; advanced degree preferred (M.Sc., M.P.H., Pharm.D., or Ph.D.).
- 8+ years pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Subject matter expert in publication process/content generation; leadership running publication strategy and plan.
- Experience developing/executing medical affairs evidence generation plans.
- Managed medical communications budget (planned vs actual).
- Preferred: oncology/hematology; helpful: ovarian, lung, pancreatic, or colon cancer.
- Preferred: launch experience.
- Exceptional project management; lead and โroll up sleevesโ.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Plan/prioritize/execute multiple projects; multitask independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Understand clinical development and oncology clinical study outcomes measures.
- Critically appraise and apply medical/scientific literature.
- Strong interpersonal, stakeholder management, and ability to communicate complex medical information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with tools/software for publication planning (e.g., Datavision, literature search indices, journal databases).
