Medical Affairs
Role: Senior Director, Medical Affairs Learning & Development (Waltham, MA)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Define and execute Medical Affairs learning vision, strategy, and multi-year capability roadmap.
- Build scalable training frameworks for growth, launch readiness, field excellence, and evolving priorities.
- Assess current/future capability needs and advise on adult learning methodologies, scientific education, and field capability development.
- Establish governance, standards, and best practices for Medical Affairs learning, certification, and capability development.
- Design programs to strengthen field medical excellence, strategic account engagement, insight generation, and customer interaction.
- Create assessment/certification approaches to ensure consistency and quality of Medical Affairs interactions.
- Implement coaching and development frameworks for sustained field effectiveness; support competency models and career pathways.
- Lead Medical Affairs curriculum design, deployment, and continuous improvement (foundational, role-based, launch, advanced).
- Develop onboarding and disease-state/clinical/scientific/product/competitive-intelligence training.
- Develop compliant medical exchange and external communication/presentation/moderation training.
- Lead Medical Affairs launch training and launch certification (scientific, compliance, customer-facing readiness).
- Ensure training compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and internal compliance expectations; oversee learning technologies/systems/vendors.
- Define learning metrics and drive continuous improvement using feedback, analytics, assessments, and outcomes.
Education & Skills Requirements:
- Advanced scientific/healthcare degree required; PharmD/PhD/MD/DO/DNP/PA/NP preferred.
- 15+ years progressive biopharma/healthcare experience.
- Significant Medical Affairs/field medical leadership/medical education/training experience.
- Proven success designing, implementing, and measuring Medical Affairs/field training; experience with regulated launch readiness.
- Strong adult learning, instructional design, capability building, change management, and learning measurement.
- Strong understanding of Medical Affairs activities (scientific exchange, med comms, publications, congress, advisory boards, insight generation, field).
- Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, stakeholder management, project/vendor management.
- Experience with LMS/digital learning, analytics, and learner feedback; proven leadership.
- Self-starter; passion for rare genetically driven diseases.
- Travel up to 30%.
