How You’ll Contribute
- Key member of the business development transactions team reporting to the Acting Chief Development Officer; act as deal architect and lead negotiator (deal structuring, term sheet, contract negotiations) for strategically aligned partnering opportunities, and present analyses to internal teams and senior management.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Structure and negotiate complex partnership agreements (licensing, co-development collaborations, platform technology agreements, research collaborations).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, R&D, and Commercial to develop deal terms, financial models, and negotiation strategies.
- Lead due diligence processes with technical, regulatory, and legal teams to address partner inquiries.
- Drive negotiations to achieve optimal economic terms while maintaining strategic alignment and relationship quality.
- Identify and resolve issues promptly; gather/analyze information and escalate quickly.
- Prepare comprehensive presentations/memos to support governance deal committee decision-making.
- Monitor the external business environment and maintain a knowledge base of licensing and partnering activities.
- Build and strengthen an industry network to facilitate deal making.
- Manage relationships with partners post-deal through alliance management activities.
- Represent the company at scientific, investor, and partnering conferences.
What You’ll Bring (Qualifications)
- Post-graduate degree (business or relevant scientific discipline such as Pharm D, MD, PhD) plus a minimum of 10 years’ related biotech/pharmaceutical experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Record of accomplishment in business development; preferably sell-side experience in oncology and autoimmune diseases.
- Experience building valuation models and presentations; experience with term sheets and contract negotiations.
- Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across functions; effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage concurrent deliverables in a milestone-driven environment.
- Strong leadership skills to manage, develop, and empower teams.
- Experience leading strategic planning processes/initiatives in complex cross-functional environments (with and without direct authority).
- Strategic thinking; ability to anticipate roadblocks and map next steps.
- Successful track record in leading business development deals from initial terms to closure (win-win outcomes).
- Strong understanding of pharma/biotech industry, drug development process, trends, competitor landscape, and business strategy.
- Outstanding skills in competitive analysis and opportunity identification.
- Demonstrated integrity and ethics.
- Results-oriented with attention to detail.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to influence senior leaders and articulate strategic objectives.
