About the Role
Scientific Communications Leader (SCL) is a senior strategic role defining and driving integrated scientific communications strategy for oncology assets/indications across the product lifecycle, creating a clear, evidence-based scientific narrative to support Medical Affairs objectives, scientific exchange, data communication, congress readiness, and cross-functional alignment.
Responsibilities
- Lead development and execution of integrated scientific communications strategy for assigned oncology assets/franchises.
- Define scientific communication priorities across key milestones (data readouts, congresses, publications, regulatory events, launch preparations) and align plans with medical strategy and evidence generation.
- Serve as primary architect of the scientific narrative and messaging platform.
- Lead creation/evolution of core narrative, communication platform, scientific lexicon, message houses, FAQs, and reactive communication tools.
- Ensure messaging is evidence-based, differentiated, medically accurate, balanced, and aligned across functions and geographies.
- Translate complex clinical data into messages tailored to HCPs, internal stakeholders, field medical, and congress audiences.
- Oversee strategic development of deliverables: scientific narratives, key statements/messages, congress communication plans, Q&A for data disclosures, slide decks, field medical training materials, and support materials.
- Maintain awareness of the external oncology landscape and translate insights into communication implications/recommendations.
- Support planning for advisory boards, expert engagement, and other external-facing activities (as relevant).
- Partner cross-functionally to align on scientific priorities and communication outputs; may lead through influence and manage matrix stakeholders.
Education/Qualifications
- Advanced degree required: PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent.
- Significant biopharma oncology experience with substantial experience in Medical Affairs, Scientific Communications, Clinical Development, or related.
- Demonstrated experience leading oncology scientific communication strategy across development and/or commercialization.
- Experience supporting pre-launch or launch assets; global/regional medical affairs experience.
- Strong understanding of oncology clinical development, treatment landscape, scientific exchange, and medical communication.
- Proven ability to develop scientific narratives and translate complex data into strategic communication platforms.
- Strong cross-functional leadership/influence; excellent written and verbal communication.
