Position Summary
The Pathology Solutions Consultant serves as the primary pathology operations consultant supporting pathology laboratories, healthcare providers, and internal stakeholders to optimize specimen management, laboratory workflows, and operational performance for molecular and precision medicine testing.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as SME for pathology workflows, specimen management requirements, and laboratory operations supporting molecular/precision medicine testing.
- Conduct onsite and virtual pathology workflow assessments to identify process optimization opportunities.
- Partner with labs to improve specimen acquisition, handling, preservation, storage, submission practices, and workflow efficiency.
- Develop and implement consultative recommendations to improve specimen quality, testing success rates, turnaround times, and operational performance.
- Collaborate with Commercial teams to assess customer operational needs and tailor workflow improvement strategies.
- Lead onsite customer engagements, workflow mapping, laboratory assessments, and operational reviews.
- Develop implementation plans for standardized workflows, best practices, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor progress post-implementation, identify barriers, recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver educational programs and materials for pathology personnel (collection, handling, preservation, submission, workflow optimization, best practices).
- Evaluate and present performance metrics/KPIs (scorecards, dashboards, executive summaries).
- Apply Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Investigate and resolve process issues affecting specimen quality, testing success, efficiency, and customer satisfaction (including QNS trends, pre-qualification delays, workflow inefficiencies).
- Partner with internal stakeholders to improve end-to-end specimen management; support onboarding and new product introductions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Business Administration, Life Sciences, Healthcare Administration, related STEM) or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in pathology/lab operations, healthcare consulting, pathology sales, process improvement, operational excellence, or related healthcare.
- Customer-facing workflow assessment experience and ability to develop improvement recommendations.
- Experience presenting findings and influencing laboratory leadership/executives.
- Strong analytical, written/verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel extensively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio) and business Internet use.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt.
- Experience in clinical diagnostics/pathology labs/biotechnology/medical devices/healthcare services.
- Knowledge of specimen management, workflows, molecular diagnostics, pathology operations, and precision medicine.
- Experience with regulated new product introductions and designing workflows (logistics, ordering, reporting, vendor management).
- Experience leading customer-facing operational consulting engagements and scalable improvements with measurable outcomes.
