Position Summary
The Pathology Solutions Consultant serves as a primary pathology operations consultant supporting pathology laboratories, healthcare providers, and internal stakeholders to optimize specimen management, laboratory workflows, and operational performance for molecular and precision medicine testing.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as SME for pathology workflows, specimen management requirements, and laboratory operations for molecular/precision medicine testing.
- Conduct onsite and virtual pathology workflow assessments to optimize processes.
- Partner with pathology labs to improve specimen acquisition, handling, preservation, storage, submission, and workflow efficiency.
- Develop and implement recommendations to improve specimen quality, testing success rates, turnaround times, and operational performance.
- Collaborate with Commercial teams to assess customer operational needs and tailor workflow improvement strategies.
- Lead customer engagements, workflow mapping, laboratory assessments, and operational reviews.
- Create implementation plans for standardized workflows, best practices, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor progress, identify barriers, and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver education for pathology personnel; create training and workflow documentation/resources.
- Evaluate performance metrics, analyze trends/root causes, and develop data-driven corrective/preventive actions.
- Develop/present KPIs, scorecards, dashboards, and executive summaries.
- Apply Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Investigate and resolve process issues affecting quality, success, efficiency, and satisfaction.
- Analyze QNS trends, pre-qualification delays, and workflow inefficiencies.
- Partner cross-functionally to improve end-to-end specimen management and support onboarding/new product introductions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Business Administration, Life Sciences, Healthcare Administration, related STEM) or equivalent.
- 5+ years in pathology/lab operations, healthcare consulting, sales, process improvement, or operational excellence.
- Experience conducting customer-facing workflow assessments and delivering operational improvement recommendations.
- Experience presenting findings to pathology leadership/executives.
- Strong analytical and communication/facilitation/presentation skills.
- Strong organizational/project management/problem-solving skills.
- Extensive travel to customer sites.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt.
- Experience in clinical diagnostics/pathology ops/biotech/medical devices/healthcare services.
- Knowledge of specimen management, laboratory workflows, molecular diagnostics, and precision medicine.
- Experience supporting new product introductions in regulated environments; designing specimen logistics/order/reporting workflows; leading customer consulting engagements; implementing scalable improvements with measurable outcomes.
