Position Summary
The Pathology Solutions Consultant serves as the primary pathology operations consultant supporting pathology laboratories, healthcare providers, and internal stakeholders to optimize specimen management, laboratory workflows, and operational performance for molecular and precision medicine testing.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for pathology workflows, specimen management requirements, and laboratory operations supporting molecular/precision medicine testing.
- Conduct onsite and virtual pathology workflow assessments to identify process optimization opportunities.
- Partner with pathology laboratories to improve specimen acquisition, handling, preservation, storage, submission, and overall workflow efficiency.
- Develop consultative recommendations to improve specimen quality, testing success rates, turnaround times, and operational performance.
- Collaborate with Commercial teams to assess customer operational needs and tailor workflow improvement strategies.
- Lead customer engagements, workflow mapping sessions, laboratory assessments, and operational reviews.
- Develop implementation plans for standardized workflows, operational best practices, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor progress post-implementation, identify barriers, and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver educational programs and create supporting materials/documentation.
- Evaluate performance metrics (KPIs, scorecards, dashboards) and analyze trends/root causes (e.g., QNS).
- Apply Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Present findings and recommendations to pathology leadership and executive stakeholders.
- Investigate and resolve process issues impacting quality, success rates, efficiency, and satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Life Sciences, Healthcare Administration, related STEM, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years in pathology operations/lab operations/healthcare consulting/pathology sales/process improvement/operational excellence.
- Customer-facing workflow assessment experience and ability to develop recommendations.
- Experience presenting findings and influencing leadership.
- Strong analytical skills; excellent written/verbal/facilitation/presentation skills.
- Strong organizational/project management/problem-solving skills.
- Extensive travel for onsite engagements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt.
- Experience in clinical diagnostics/pathology lab operations/biotech/medical devices/healthcare services.
- Knowledge of specimen management, molecular diagnostics, pathology operations, precision medicine.
- Experience supporting regulated new product introductions.
- Experience designing workflows for specimen logistics, ordering, reporting, vendor management.
- Experience leading customer-facing operational consulting engagements.
- Experience implementing scalable improvements with measurable outcomes.
