Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications (drafting, filing, and managing responses to office actions globally).
- Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses; advise on patentability and infringement issues.
- Manage patent portfolios (patent landscape analyses and patent strategy development).
- Provide due diligence support for business development (evaluate IP portfolios of partners and acquisition targets).
- Draft and negotiate license and research collaboration agreements.
- Manage relationships with outside counsel to ensure high-quality, cost-effective legal services.
- Provide IP-related guidance to business and technical teams.
- Stay current on patent laws and regulations and ensure compliance.
Qualifications:
- Registered to practice before the USPTO.
- J.D. degree.
- 7โ10 years of patent law experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
- Bachelorโs degree (chemistry/biochemistry/pharmaceutical sciences); advanced degree and/or scientific research experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Service-oriented; able to work in cross-functional teams and drive results.
- High integrity and judgment; ability to assess business risk and communicate legal issues to stakeholders.
