Role Summary
Director, Intellectual Property - Patent Agent/Attorney. Responsible for patent preparation and prosecution while protecting and advancing Halozyme’s life sciences portfolio. Join a collaborative team delivering meaningful innovations that impact people’s lives.
Responsibilities
- Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the biotechnology and life sciences fields.
- Develop and execute global patent strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and landscape analyses.
- Collaborate with R&D teams to identify and protect intellectual property.
- Manage relationships with outside counsel and coordinate international filings.
- Provide IP guidance to internal stakeholders on product development and regulatory strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related life sciences discipline required; Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) strongly preferred. With advanced degree, minimum 8 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, focusing on biotechnology or life sciences (equivalent experience/education considered).
- Registered to practice before the USPTO.
- For attorneys: J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one state bar.
- Deep understanding of U.S. and international patent laws and procedures.
- Experience with biologics, gene therapy, or molecular biology technologies preferred.
- Familiarity with IP issues in the pharmaceutical and regulatory frameworks preferred.
