Role Summary

Oncology Medical Science Liaison/Sr Medical Science Liaison - North Chicago. Serve as the local medical voice in the disease area, building a local medical strategy to improve patient care and outcomes. Provide medical and scientific support for AstraZeneca's oncology products, new indications, and compounds in development. Territory includes Northern Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the local medical leader responsible for developing a tailored strategy to meet AZ USMA priorities in the disease area, as well as local specificities and patient needs
  • Develop strong working relationships in external settings (academia, hospitals, managed markets, private practices)
  • Lead scientific exchanges with oncologists and key MDT members
  • Lead peer-to-peer scientific/medical interactions
  • Gather insights on the treatment landscape, healthcare environment, barriers to optimal treatment, and opportunities to improve patient outcomes
  • Discuss data and educational gaps with KOLs to ensure adequate use of medicines and inform R&D strategy
  • Stay current with scientific knowledge and attend relevant meetings and conferences
  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations on trials from feasibility to execution

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Advanced scientific degree required (e.g., Pharm D, MD/DO, PhD, PA, or NP) in a relevant health science or clinical discipline
    • Ability to express ideas clearly in writing and in conversations, and to navigate a matrix environment
    • 0-2+ years of MSL experience or relevant therapeutic area experience
    • Demonstrated ability to discuss scientific content to multiple audiences; strong understanding of clinical study design and protocols
    • Basic understanding of healthcare system, clinical trial methodology, statistics, and regulatory environment
    • Excellent project management ability
    • Ability to travel 40-60% domestically by car, train, and plane
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Doctorate strongly preferred in a health science or clinical discipline
    • MSL experience; oncology experience
    • Proven ability to deliver customer-related outcomes and impact Medical Affairs/MLS strategies at regional level
