North America Regional Medical Director (MedTech | Surgery)
Position Summary
Provide strategic medical leadership for the Surgery (formerly Ethicon) franchise across the United States and Canada (based in Raritan, NJ). Advance medical affairs strategy for surgical technologies, offering scientific/clinical expertise, medical governance, product safety support, oversight of clinical evidence generation, and stakeholder relationship building.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute North America Medical Affairs strategy aligned to franchise/global objectives.
- Provide vision, leadership, and management for the regional Medical Affairs organization.
- Lead and develop Medical Science Liaisons and Medical Affairs professionals across the U.S. and Canada.
- Serve as primary medical expert for Ethicon product portfolios.
- Provide scientific/clinical leadership for product lifecycle management, innovation programs, and commercialization.
- Oversee regional medical governance and ensure policy/compliance adherence.
- Partner with clinical, regulatory, quality, and safety to support safe/effective product use.
- Support clinical research programs (regional studies and global evidence initiatives).
- Build relationships with KOLs, healthcare professionals, academic institutions, and societies.
- Deliver scientific insights, perform medical review/validation of communications/materials.
- Manage operating budgets and prioritize resources.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders to advance science and improve patient outcomes.
Qualifications
Required
- MD/DO/MBBS or equivalent.
- 5+ years in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals, Diagnostics, or related industries.
- 5+ years of direct patient care clinical experience.
- Proven strategic vision/change leadership with operational/tactical execution.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of clinical research/evidence generation, healthcare regulations, and medical governance.
- Experience engaging healthcare professionals, investigators, and KOLs.
- Strong business acumen integrating scientific and commercial perspectives.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management.
- Travel ~30% domestic/international.
Preferred
- Medical Device/Surgical Technologies (MedTech).
- Prior people leadership in Medical Affairs.
- North America/global market experience.
- MBA or advanced business qualification.
- Excellence in strategic planning, financial management, and organizational leadership.
