Purpose
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert who supports the research and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle.
Responsibilities
- Supports research initiatives across development at request of R&D (e.g., site evaluation/identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, external collaboration management).
- Identifies, gains access to, and develops relationships with external experts (EEs) in assigned geography.
- Communicates field insights to internal business partners; provides education on disease state and AbbVie products to healthcare providers and researchers.
- Stays current on market issues/trends and product knowledge relevant to business responsibilities.
- Works with in-field teams to develop and execute a territory plan; inputs and maintains an internal database related to HCP interactions.
- Prepares the marketplace in new therapeutic areas of interest (awareness and relationship building).
- Serves as a scientific resource to commercial partners for activities such as Medical Congress staffing, Advisory Boards, and training initiatives.
- Uses resources efficiently, including financial decisions.
- Provides/supports clinical information needs in assigned geography; supports MSL team and corporate needs; meets targeted goals, project deadlines, and annual functional goals.
- Ensures compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional policies/procedures.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, PA/NP, or BSN) in a relevant scientific discipline; doctorate strongly preferred.
- β₯2 years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry related experience (or equivalent).
- Lung solid tumor experience preferred; prior pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
- Advanced problem solving and analytic skills.
- Travel up to 75%.
- Must meet HCIR credentialing requirements (e.g., background checks, drug screens, proof of immunization/vaccination).

- Role is remote; candidate must live in the territory or self-relocate within it (majority: Southern California and Las Vegas, NV).
