Medical Affairs
The MSL/Senior MSL:
- A field-based scientific expert strategically supporting research and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory.
- Primary communicator of AbbVie science within a specific geography with healthcare professionals.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with internal and external customers to provide comprehensive medical and scientific support.
- Peer scientific expert in a designated therapeutic area/product.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers to ensure access to current medical/scientific information.
- Present scientific information and education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products across the product lifecycle.
- Support requested research initiatives and physician-initiated projects (e.g., site evaluation, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, external collaboration management).
- Prepare the marketplace in new therapeutic areas by creating medical community awareness and relationships.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional partners and in-field commercial teams; support account plans and serve as a scientific resource.
- Answer unsolicited medical questions and address clinically related medical information issues.
- Provide ongoing training to medical affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel.
- Practice strategic segmentation and optimal resource utilization.
- Maintain compliance with corporate/divisional policies, accurate HCP interaction documentation, and annual expense budget.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, or APP); doctorate strongly preferred.
- Senior MSL: 3+ years relevant experience; MSL: 0–2 years.
- Preferable experience in Endocrinology/Metabolic/obesity or Gastroenterology.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation/teaching, planning/organizational, and independent/team skills.
- Meet HCIR credentialing requirements for facility access.
- Proficiency: Excel, Word, PowerPoint; ability to learn and convey technical information.
- Travel up to 75%.
Preferred territory: DC, MD, DE, Eastern PA (live in or self-relocate within territory).
