Job Description: The MSL/Senior MSL is a field-based scientific expert who strategically supports research and business objectives for a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle within a specific territory, and serves as the primary communicator of AbbVie science with healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers for current medical/scientific information.
- Present scientific information and education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products across the product lifecycle.
- Support physician-initiated and AbbVie R&D/Clinical Ops/Medical Affairs research initiatives (e.g., site evaluation, recruitment, investigator meetings, expert identification, external collaboration management).
- Prepare/advance the marketplace in new therapeutic areas by building awareness and relationships.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional partners and in-field commercial teams; execute account plans and serve as a scientific resource.
- Answer unsolicited medical questions and address clinically related medical information.
- Conduct ongoing training for medical affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel as directed.
- Maintain compliance with corporate/divisional policies and accurate HCP interaction documentation; manage annual expenses within budget.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, APP such as PA/NP); doctorate strongly preferred.
- Senior MSL: 3+ years relevant experience; MSL: 0–2 years.
- Strong ability to analyze/translate territory and corporate needs; Excel/Word/PowerPoint proficiency.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation/teaching, planning/organizational, and leadership skills.
- Meet HCIR credentialing requirements (e.g., background checks, drug screens, immunization proof).
- Ability to travel up to 75%.
- Must live in or self-relocate within territory: DC, Maryland, or Delaware.
