Medical Affairs
The Medical Science Liaison is a field-based scientific expert who strategically supports the scientific and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory. Primary communicator of AbbVie science with healthcare professionals, developing and maintaining professional relationships with internal and external customers to provide medical/scientific support and facilitate exchange of scientific information, education, and research activities.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers.
- Present disease-state and therapeutic landscape education and AbbVie product information across the product lifecycle.
- Support research initiatives and physician-initiated projects (e.g., site evaluation/recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, collaboration management).
- Serve as an internal medical/scientific resource for disease-state and product communications/materials consistent with regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional partners; support account plans with in-field commercial teams.
- Provide on-going training to medical affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel; maintain clinical and competitor knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with corporate/divisional policies, accurate/timely HCP documentation, and manage expenses within assigned budget.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Advanced degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, or APP); doctorate strongly preferred.
- 0β2 years relevant experience.
- Problem-solving/analytic skills; strong written/verbal communication.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
- Ability to learn scientific storytelling, mobilizers, and active listening.
- Meet HCIR credentialing requirements (e.g., background checks, drug screens, immunization proof).
- Ability to convey technical clinical/non-clinical information; engage and help audiences understand/retain.
- Travel up to 75%.
