Medical Affairs
The Medical Science Liaison is a field-based scientific expert who strategically supports the scientific and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory. Serves as AbbVie’s primary scientific communicator with healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Master scientific content, disease state, and therapeutic area to act as a scientific expert.
- Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers.
- Present scientific information and education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products to healthcare professionals.
- Support research initiatives and physician-initiated projects (e.g., site evaluation/identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and external collaboration management).
- Serve as an internal medical/scientific resource for disease-state and product communications/materials consistent with regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional partners and in-field commercial teams on account plans.
- Provide ongoing training to medical affairs/field sales/internal personnel; maintain up-to-date clinical and competitor knowledge.
- Practice strategic segmentation and optimal resource utilization.
- Ensure compliance with corporate/divisional policies, accurate HCP interaction documentation, and manage expenses within budget.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree required (Pharm D, MD/DO, PhD, or APP such as Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner); doctorate strongly preferred.
- Typically 0–2 years of relevant experience.
- Problem-solving/analytic skills; proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; excellent written/verbal communication.
- Ability to learn scientific storytelling, identifying mobilizers, and active listening.
- Must meet HCIR credentialing requirements (e.g., background checks, drug screens, immunization proof).
- Ability to convey clinical/non-clinical technical information and engage audiences.
- Travel up to 75%.
