Position Summary
- Perform routine high-complexity molecular techniques including blood processing/buffy coat extraction, RNA/DNA extractions, PCR, and Next-Generation Sequencing.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and laboratory inventory; track and receive samples/packages.
- Follow standard laboratory procedures and policies under supervisor direction; support molecular workflow, quality systems, and data documentation.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare samples: blood centrifugation, plasma processing, buffy coat extractions.
- Perform RNA/DNA extractions for daily molecular testing; ensure correct patient labeling.
- Perform real-time PCR and Next-Generation Sequencing.
- Prepare CAPA documents for nonconformance events (pre-, analytical, and post-analytical).
- Participate in continuous process improvements, validations, and proficiency testing.
- Track/enter/monitor patient files in the Laboratory Information System.
- Maintain equipment (clean/sterilize/maintain/shut down) and complete logs; maintain instruments/accessories as required.
- Perform only authorized high-complexity tests (as directed/authorized by the laboratory director).
- Follow specimen handling/processing procedures; perform testing analyses and maintain patient result records.
- Test proficiency samples in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adhere to quality control policies; document QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
- Act when systems are outside acceptable performance limits (correct or immediately notify appropriate supervisors/leads).
- Document corrective actions when performance specifications deviate.
- Perform high-complexity testing under onsite direct supervision (CLIA).
- Accept other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (Molecular Technologist I: <1 year relevant experience; Molecular Technologist II: 3+ years relevant molecular laboratory experience).
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical/biological/clinical/medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Skills in technical data interpretation and troubleshooting.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); working knowledge of internet for business use; skilled in operating office equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- RNA and DNA extraction experience; nucleic acid extraction experience.
- Next-Generation Sequencing experience.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety (biohazards/chemicals) and quality control procedures/regulations.
Physical/Other
- Ability to sit/stand for long periods; repetitive motion; lift up to 30 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity (including color discrimination test).
- Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens and fumes/chemicals.
- May require evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays.
Available Shifts
- 1st Shift: 5:30am–4:00pm
- 2nd Shift: 1:30pm–12:00am
