Job Description Summary
- Field-based Medical Affairs role responsible for scientific exchange and insight generation with payer/reimbursement audiences (national/regional health plans, PBMs, Medicaid). Delivers fair-balanced scientific presentations, supports payer evidence needs, and enables reimbursement readiness through development/maintenance of payer-facing materials. Serves as a resource to management on market dynamics, business development, and client feedback.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with payer stakeholders.
- Deliver (and may design) fair-balanced, objective clinical/scientific presentations in response to unsolicited payer requests.
- Partner with Market Access and HEOR/RWE to identify payer evidence gaps; inform RWE needs and communicate learnings.
- Translate trial/emerging clinical evidence into payer-relevant context (unmet need, patient selection, endpoints/outcomes, durability, safety, utilization).
- Generate and communicate US payer insights; capture evidence expectations, policy trends, prior auth/UM themes, and access barriers.
- Lead/coordinate development and ongoing maintenance of US payer scientific decks and materials; ensure currency with new evidence and approved messaging.
- Maintain/update Letters of Medical Necessity and templates/resources.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to incorporate relevant clinical/RWE/outcomes evidence into payer narratives.
- Train internal teams on payer decks/materials and payer landscape insights; disseminate payer updates.
- Mentor junior team members.
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, DNP, MSN, MS, Registered Dietician, or Genetic Counselor) with 5+ years as a Medical Science liaison.
- Experience with orphan/rare disease; PKU preferred; inborn errors of metabolism/genetics/rare diseases.
- Experience with high-cost specialty pharmacy products and patient access coordination.
- Strong payer and KOL/HCP engagement; ability to deliver high-impact fair-balanced payer presentations.
- Demonstrated payer-insight gathering/synthesis; understanding of RWE/HEOR.
- Excellent written/verbal scientific communication; analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to influence without authority.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s license; personal vehicle/insurance; ability to travel daily and overnight/weekend.
- Field-based East/Central time zone; travel 50–60%; daily entry to hospitals/medical facilities with credentialing compliance.
Preferred
- Experience supporting orphan/rare disease and/or specialized drugs.
Benefits/Compensation
- Base salary: $201,000–$240,000; eligible for short- and long-term incentives; medical/dental/vision and retirement savings plans.
