Medical Science Liaison (MSL) — field-based (travel 30–50%)
Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and healthcare stakeholders in strategic disease states.
- Provide clinical/scientific information and presentations in group and one-on-one settings in academic/community/HCP environments.
- Partner with Clinical to enhance patient enrollment in Phathom-sponsored trials by identifying sites and engaging investigators.
- Serve as a liaison for investigator-initiated research.
- Develop and execute territory plans aligned to regional/national strategies.
- Provide competitive intelligence and timely feedback on emerging clinical/scientific information.
- Gather and share insights from KOLs/HCPs/trial investigators with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Provide scientific support at medical congresses.
- Drive within assigned territory; use automobile and, in some territories, airplane.
Organizational/Scientific Expertise:
- Understand KOL needs; network within pharma/biopharma and territory peers.
- Analyze data to select methods; apply scientific knowledge to GI and secondary pipeline areas.
Accountabilities:
- Provide high-quality scientific information to HCPs and respond to unsolicited medical information requests.
- Initiate/maintain KOL relationships; develop medical expertise in acid-related GI disorders.
- Support educational meetings and represent products/therapeutic areas to ethical/professional standards.
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in life sciences (MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP, PA-C, MSN) required.
- PhRMA/AGA guideline knowledge; clinical development process and ICH-GCP understanding.
- Strong communication (verbal/written/presentations) and scientific credibility while being commercially supportive.
- Strong teamwork, networking, flexibility, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- MSL experience; Medical Affairs fellowship/internship participation.
- Prior work in pharmaceutical medical affairs or as a healthcare provider.
- Product launch and GI therapeutic area experience.
