Brief Description:
- The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based extension of US Medical Affairs, developing relationships with medical thought leaders and providing medical information through scientific exchange and clinical/scientific support.
Territory/Scope:
- Field-based covering Northern California, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, and Montana.
Essential Functions:
- KOL Development and Field Engagement: Identify/develop KOL and HCP relationships; develop/execute territory plans aligned with US Medical Affairs; communicate key clinical/research issues to appropriate departments; deliver medical education via presentations, investigator meetings, conferences, advisory boards, or regional meetings; provide scientific support for congress staffing, advisory boards, and sales training.
- Scientific Expert: Maintain high-level therapy/product/research knowledge; serve as a trusted source of scientific/medical information; support Jazz’s positioning as scientific authority; attend congresses; understand clinical practice protocols/standards and disease management trends; present clinical info and respond to unsolicited questions; communicate emerging data and product clinical experience objectively; support data generation (company-sponsored studies, collaborations, ISTs).
- Medical Affairs Planning: Contribute to US Medical Plan and local strategies; manage relevant budgets when needed; collaborate cross-functionally for Key Account Management; support activities aligned to the Medical Plan (advisory boards, speaker development, clinical trials).
- Standards/Compliance: Enhance Jazz’s image through meaningful scientific exchange; document/forward adverse events and product complaints per policy; adhere to relevant Codes of Practice; act ethically/integrity; ambassador for mission/values; maintain written development plan; prepare timely reporting.
Required:
- Advanced degree (PharmD/MD/PhD or equivalent) + 3+ years in therapeutic area.
- License (RN/NP/CNP/PA or equivalent) + Master’s (or equivalent) + 5+ years clinical practice.
- 2+ years as an MSL or comparable industry/clinical role.
- Ability to research/analyze/communicate complex medical/scientific data; clear communication/presentation; strong planning/organization and attention to detail; strategic mindset; autonomy; learn quickly/flexible/results-focused; negotiation skills; relationship-building/networking/collaboration; strong digital platform/tool capability; excellent spoken English.
- Travel 60%+ (driving required); field position; willing to travel 60–70%.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of geography/healthcare environment; trust-building with opinion leaders; understanding regulatory requirements for field-based personnel; oncology experience; strong MSL success track record.
Physical/Work Environment:
- Frequent travel; frequent computer/laptop/tablet use; possible work outside normal hours; frequent public contact.
