PURPOSE
The Medical Science Liaison supports medical and business strategies for compounds through field-based activities aligned with medical goals and objectives, building Takedaβs presence with thought leaders and academic institutions in assigned geographies/therapeutic areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide medical insights, intelligence, and recommendations to support development and life-cycle management.
- Offer medical/scientific expertise to commercial partners within regulatory guidelines.
- Compliantly connect customers to advance medical strategy and improve patient outcomes.
- Build and maintain relationships with KOLs/HCPs per territory plans.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of disease areas/products and competitor landscape.
- Analyze/interpret complex scientific information and disseminate in a compliant, fair-balanced, non-misleading manner.
- Support Takeda-sponsored research; assist with medical collaborative and investigator-initiated research.
- Execute field-based medical education and support advisory boards.
- Identify/facilitate KOL/HCP partnership opportunities with Takeda.
- Engage at medical conferences and internally communicate medical insights.
- Compliantly respond to unsolicited medical information requests.
- Achieve MSL metrics (quantitative and qualitative).
- Complete required documentation (e.g., CRM, insights), training, expense reporting, and administration.
- Support clinical education/publications/communications and cross-functional internal training.
- Assist with site identification/evaluation and support clinical trials sites.
- Provide subject matter expertise to cross-functional partners.
- Conduct business in compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., IMC, PAAB), policies, and legal requirements.
COMPETENCIES / SKILLS
- Scientific/pharmaceutical industry knowledge; strong strategic and critical thinking.
- Therapeutic area knowledge (prior experience preferred).
- Ability to communicate technical/scientific information to stakeholders.
- Understanding of pre-clinical and clinical drug development phases/processes.
- Knowledge of Canadian healthcare infrastructure and relevant regulations/guidelines.
- Strong business acumen; self-motivated teamwork/leadership; excellent oral/written communication; influence without authority; excellent presentation.
- Digital skills: data analysis/interpretation, virtual collaboration (e.g., MS Teams), proficiency with digital tools/AI/Microsoft Office; cybersecurity awareness.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS
- MD/PharmD/PhD required (experience may be considered).
- Minimum 5 years pharmaceutical industry and/or relevant clinical experience.
- Therapeutic area experience is an asset.
- Bilingual English/French preferred.
TRAVEL
- Field-based; travel to meetings/client sites including overnight; some international travel may be required.
