PURPOSE
The Medical Science Liaison supports medical and business strategies for compounds through field-based activities aligned with overall medical goals. The role establishes presence with thought leaders and academic institutions in assigned geographies/therapeutic areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medical insights, intelligence, and recommendations to support development and life-cycle management of Takeda compounds.
- Provide medical/scientific expertise to commercial partners as needed within regulatory guidelines.
- Compliantly connect customers to advance medical strategy and improve patient outcomes.
Key Job Accountabilities (≥80% externally focused KOL/HCP activities)
- Build/maintain KOL/HCP relationships per territory plan; demonstrate advanced disease/product and competitor landscape knowledge.
- Analyze/interpret complex scientific information and disseminate compliantly (fair-balanced, non-misleading).
- Support Takeda-sponsored research and facilitate medical collaborative and investigator-initiated research.
- Collect and internally communicate medical insights to refine strategies/tactics; execute field-based medical education.
- Support advisory boards; identify KOL/HCP–Takeda partnership opportunities.
- Participate in medical conferences and address unsolicited requests for medical information.
- Achieve MSL metrics; complete customer activity documentation, training, expense reporting, and admin tasks.
- Support clinical education/publications/communications and research site identification/evaluation; support clinical trials sites.
- Provide subject matter expertise/clinical-scientific education for cross-functional partners; comply with regulations/policies.
Competencies / Skills
- Strategic/critical scientific background; strong therapeutic area learning capability.
- Deep understanding of pre-clinical and clinical drug development phases/processes.
- Knowledge of Canadian healthcare infrastructure, relevant legislation/codes/guidelines/formularies.
- Business acumen; self-directed teamwork/leadership; strong oral/written communication and presentation; influence without authority.
- Digital competencies: data analysis, digital collaboration, use of digital tools/AI/tech; cybersecurity awareness.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) required.
- Minimum 5 years pharmaceutical industry and/or relevant clinical experience (or equivalent).
- Therapeutic area experience is an asset; bilingual (English/French) preferred.
Travel Requirements
- Field-based; travel to meetings/client sites, including overnight; some international travel.
