Medical Affairs
The Medical Science Liaison is a field-based scientific expert who strategically supports the scientific and business objectives of a designated therapeutic area across the product life cycle for a specific geography/territory. Serves as the primary communicator of AbbVie science with healthcare professionals and acts as a conduit of information between customers and internal cross-functional teams. Develops and maintains professional relationships to provide comprehensive medical and scientific support, facilitating the exchange of scientific information, education, and research activities for physicians and ancillary healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities:
- Master scientific content, materials, disease state, and therapeutic area to establish expertise.
- Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers.
- Present disease-state and therapeutic landscape education and AbbVie product information across the product lifecycle.
- Support R&D/Clinical Operations/Medical Affairs research initiatives and physician-initiated projects (e.g., site evaluation, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, external collaboration management).
- Serve as internal medical/scientific resource for medically accurate, balanced, regulator-consistent communications/materials.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and, as appropriate, in-field commercial teams to support shared account objectives.
- Provide ongoing training to internal personnel; maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and competitor data.
- Apply strategic segmentation and optimal resource utilization.
- Ensure compliance with corporate/divisional policies, accurate HCP interaction documentation, and maintain annual expenses within budget.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree required (PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, APP); doctorate strongly preferred.
- Typically 0β2 years relevant experience.
- Problem-solving and analytic skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint; excellent written/verbal communication.
- Ability to learn/apply scientific storytelling, identifying mobilizers, and active listening.
- Meet HCIR credentialing requirements (e.g., background checks, drug screens, immunization proof).
- Ability to convey technical clinical and non-clinical information; engage audiences and improve information retention.
- Travel up to 75%.
