Responsibilities
- Administer procurement activities and day-to-day supplier management for assigned commodities and products.
- Make, manage, and execute buying decisions to ensure uninterrupted product flow.
- Coordinate product availability information externally and internally to meet deliverable dates and facility service-level goals.
- Maintain communications internally and externally to surface and resolve issues impacting operating efficiencies.
- Make buying decisions from various suppliers.
- Analyze and manage reports (supplier performance, MRP exception, open P.O.) to ensure on-time material availability and proper inventory levels.
- Investigate and review material quality complaints/problems (internal and external) and forward correspondence to appropriate personnel.
- Analyze excess and obsolete material and initiate disposition through internal/external channels.
- Initiate projects to eliminate non-value-added activities, increase quality/service, and reduce costs; monitor commodity market trends for improvement opportunities.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of suppliers, industries, technologies, manufacturing processes, and purchasing strategies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of purchasing and materials management systems; build skills in negotiation and contract terms/conditions.
- Complete mandatory training within required timeframe.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Required/Preferred Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or closely related field; 3+ years procurement experience preferred.
- Experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry (plus).
- Solid knowledge and experience in purchasing principles; purchasing certificates preferred.
- Experience preparing and implementing policies, systems, and procedures.
- Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with multiple projects and products.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and team-building skills.
- General knowledge of GAAP/SOX and understanding of internal accounting controls.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; ERP system knowledge (SAP preferred).
Important Considerations (Role Conditions)
- Controlled manufacturing environment with required gowning/PPE; remove makeup, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish/artificial fingernails.
- Work in cold/wet environment; may require clean room and special PPE.
- Multiple shifts (including weekends) and possible supplemental hours.
- Work around chemicals (may require respiratory protection).
- Combination of sedentary work and walking in cGMP facility; some travel <20%.
