Responsibilities:
- Operate as a peer functional leader in Patient Safety & Pharmacovigilance; provide strategic leadership, governance, and an integrated approach to patient safety.
- Partner with Clinical Development and Medical Affairs to align safety insights across the product lifecycle while maintaining independent medical judgment on safety and benefit–risk decisions.
- Define and drive the medical safety strategy across the portfolio.
- Provide senior leadership for safety interpretation and benefit–risk assessment; ensure consistent medical oversight of clinical and post-marketing safety activities.
- Lead, build, and develop a team of Medical Safety Physicians; set standards for medical review quality and scale for portfolio/geographic growth.
- Lead medical evaluation of safety signals (with Safety Science); ensure robust benefit–risk assessment; integrate clinical interpretation into safety surveillance outputs.
- Partner with Clinical Development and Medical Affairs for safety integration and consistent safety messaging; provide medical interpretation/benefit–risk input to cross-functional decisions.
- Oversee medical input into DSURs, PADERs, and regulatory safety submissions; support health authority interactions and safety queries; contribute to safety governance forums.
- Identify/escalate safety risks; define medical risk mitigation strategies; drive continuous improvement in medical safety processes.
Qualifications/Skills:
- MD required; board certification in a relevant specialty strongly preferred.
- 12+ years progressive leadership in pharma/biotech with significant Medical Safety and pharmacovigilance experience; oncology experience required.
- Demonstrated success leading Medical Safety organizations and teams.
- Deep expertise in safety signal management, aggregate safety assessment, and benefit–risk evaluation.
- Experience with global health authorities and safety-related regulatory activities.
- Strong understanding of global pharmacovigilance regulations and best practices.
- Ability to influence executive decision-making and build partnerships across Patient Safety/Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, and Biometrics.
Preferred:
- Experience building/scaling Medical Safety functions in fast-paced/growing organizations; strategic medical leadership and executive presence.
