Role Summary

Head of Scientific & Value Communications will develop and lead the Scientific & Value Communication function within the US Medical team, a strategic partner within Biogen, who helps inform medical practice across therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve meaningful patient outcomes. This role is accountable for shaping the scientific narrative and leading all aspects of medical communications/publicationsโ€šร„รด strategic and tactical planning related to key company scientific data for presentation internally and externally.

What Youโ€šร„รดll Do

  • Drive an integrated Scientific & Value Communications strategy aligned with brand and medical strategies to advance scientific communication and publication priorities.
  • Ensure compliant execution of the strategy, including publications (abstracts, posters, manuscripts), congresses (medical booth, symposia), digital content, and Field Medical materials.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Market Access, Global Medical, and other functions to align cross-functionally.
  • Manage relationships with external authors and vendors, including publication review or steering committees where applicable.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts with finance and other budget owners; manage agencies to deliver projects within budget.
  • Foster coaching, talent development, and a positive, collaborative, and high-performance team culture.

Qualifications

  • Required: MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP or comparable advanced degree in a scientific/clinical discipline.
  • Required: Minimum 8 years in healthcare/pharmaceutical sector with 3+ years in Medical Affairs/Scientific Publications/Medical Communications.
  • Required: Experience across multiple therapeutic areas and/or leading franchise teams; prior experience directing external vendors and managing budgets.
  • Preferred: Skilled at working with publication embargoes, journals/publishers, and external interactions such as publication steering committee meetings.
  • Preferred: Strong presentation, customer-facing, and interpersonal skills within a matrix organization; excellent written and oral communication for diverse audiences.
  • Preferred: Experience with scientific peer-reviewed publications, global medical communications, and industry publication best practices.
  • Preferred: Strong organizational skills to track multiple tasks across concurrent projects in a deadline-driven environment.
