What You Will Do (Field Director, Medical Science Liaisons - West Region US - Obesity and Related Conditions)

Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
- Provide strategic direction and oversight to the MSL team aligned to corporate goals
- Coach and develop MSLs; evaluate performance and provide feedback
- Foster a collaborative environment to promote retention, engagement, and work-life balance
- Identify training needs and collaborate on training plan/timeline
- Ensure compliance standards and timely completion of CRM, expense reports, and training modules
- Lead through change to drive achievement of medical initiatives
Strategic Execution
- Partner with medical leadership to develop field medical strategy, tactics, and Scientific Engagement Plans (SEPs), including success measures
- Elevate field medical insights; identify needed tools/resources to support SEPs
- Oversee peer-to-peer engagement with Opinion Leaders, community HCPs, and Population Health Decision Makers (PHDMs)
- Develop key account engagement strategies; guide MSLs to communicate clinical and economic value
- Support MSL goals; guide understanding of the healthcare ecosystem and business landscape
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Represent field medical with senior leadership; articulate team impact
- Collaborate to inform Amgen strategies using field observations/insights
- Support congress activities; participate/lead field medical project teams
- Model excellence in collaboration between field medical and field commercial (“One Amgen”)
What We Expect of You
Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate + 4 years Medical Affairs
- OR Master’s + 8 years Medical Affairs
- OR Bachelor’s + 10 years Medical Affairs
- Plus 4 years managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams/projects/programs/resource allocation
Preferred Qualifications
- Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D., or D.O. (other doctoral degrees considered)
- 7+ years industry Scientific/Medical Affairs (biotech/pharma)
- 7+ years in clinical practice/research/medical research (postdoctoral training may apply)
- 3+ years in an MSL role; current Scientific/Medical Affairs experience
- 3+ years managerial experience
- Obesity and Related Conditions expertise
