What You Will Do
Field Director (FD) of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) provides medical strategy guidance and leadership to the regional MSL team, ensuring compliant execution of field medical plans to advance clinical practice and improve patient outcomes.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
- Provide strategic direction/oversight to align the MSL team with corporate goals
- Coach and develop MSLs; evaluate performance and provide feedback
- Foster retention/engagement through recognition, growth opportunities, and work-life balance support
- Identify training needs and develop training plans/timelines
- Ensure compliance and timely completion of administrative tasks (CRM, expense reports, training modules)
- Lead through change to drive achievement of medical initiatives

Strategic Execution:
- Partner with medical leadership to develop Field Medical strategy/tactics and Scientific Engagement Plans (SEPs), including success measures
- Elevate field medical insights to refine strategy/tactics
- Identify tools/resources to support SEPs
- Oversee scientific engagement with Opinion Leaders, community HCPs, and Population Health Decision Makers (PHDMs)
- Develop key account engagement strategies
- Guide education/communication of clinical value, outcomes, and economic data to PHDMs
- Support MSLs to meet goals and focus on impactful tactics
- Guide understanding of the healthcare ecosystem and business landscape; overcome obstacles and adapt to the evolving MSL role

Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Represent field medical impact to senior leadership
- Collaborate internally using field observations/insights to inform Amgen strategies
- Support congress activities aligned to overall strategy
- Participate/lead project teams supporting field medical strategies/tactics
- Ensure cross-functional excellence with field commercial for a coordinated “One Amgen” experience

Qualifications
Basic:
- Doctorate degree + 4 years Medical Affairs experience OR
- Master’s degree + 8 years Medical Affairs experience OR
- Bachelor’s degree + 10 years Medical Affairs experience
- 4 years managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams/projects/programs/directing resource allocation

Preferred:
- Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D., or D.O.
- 7+ years industry Scientific/Medical Affairs (biotech/pharma)
- 7+ years clinical practice/research/medical research (postdoctoral training acceptable)
- 3+ years as an MSL; current Scientific/Medical Affairs experience (biotech/pharma)
- 3+ years managerial experience
- Obesity and Related Conditions expertise
