General Summary:
- Lead global medical strategy and implementation for designated disease area(s), including integrated medical plan development, publication plan, global launch strategy/execution, scientific leadership, external medical expert engagement, and post-approval evidence generation strategy.
- Reports to VP, Global Medical; leads global medical affairs team and represents Medical Affairs in Global strategic teams (including DST) to drive cross-functional alignment.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Medical Strategy: Develop/implement integrated medical plans; ensure alignment with organizational and DST priorities; distill insights into actionable strategy; establish/track medical KPIs; root-cause problem solving; prioritize and communicate to stakeholders; develop/manage global DA budget and resource allocation.
- Scientific Excellence: Serve as product/disease expert; lead peer-reviewed publications, congress presentations, and evidence generation; monitor/disseminate emerging data; develop global scientific communications/materials; review brand/global medical content per SOPs.
- External Partnerships: Represent at scientific/medical forums; cultivate relationships with global key thought leaders.
- Medical Communication: Tailor communication to stakeholders; deliver external presentations; support training; interpret medical data for pipeline and marketed therapies.
- Collaboration/Go-to-Market: Own medical partnership/commercialization approach globally; support regions lifecycle via training/materials; align medical content/messaging; lead GMAT deliverables; represent Medical Affairs in label discussions; support Access/Patient Advocacy/Policy/Corporate Comms with medical expertise.
- Evidence Generation/Access: Lead lifecycle management with HEOR and integrated evidence generation; may serve as medical monitor; lead ISS oversight/review; as applicable, lead Managed Access Committee/MAP medical monitoring.
- People Management: Recruit/develop/manage/coach team; close skill gaps; run goal-setting/performance cycles; coach through ambiguity.
- Compliance: Ensure medical activities comply with global/regional rules, Vertex Code of Conduct, SOPs, GCP, and ICH; ensure AE reporting capability; support safety communications.
Education And Experience
- MD, PhD, PharmD or other advanced life sciences degree.
- Typically 15 years of experience and 7 years supervisory/management experience (or equivalent).
- 6+ years relevant leadership in medical affairs and/or clinical development (global and country/region desired).
- 2+ years industry experience in disease area.
Pay Range
- $328,000 - $492,000
